Write a permissions explainer before the Chrome Web Store asks for one

Reviewers and users want the same thing — a plain sentence for every permission. Here is the table format we ship in Extension Kit.

Every permission in your manifest.json is a question a reviewer will ask. Answer it before they do.

One row per permission

For each entry we write three things: the permission id, why the extension needs it, and what it will never do with it. The third column is the one users read.

Keep it next to the privacy policy

Link the table from your privacy policy and from the store listing. When you add a permission, the pull request that adds it should also add the row.

Template

Extension Kit renders the table from src/site.config.ts, so the explainer and the code stay in one place.
